TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy was stunned when Jamie O’Hara said Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was better than Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka.

Both teams in North London have started the new season brilliantly. The Gunners are currently top of the Premier League with 18 points on the board.

While the Spurs are only one point behind in third place, this coming weekend faces the showdown between the two sides.

Both Hojbjerg and Xhaka were key to the successful start of the season. And this has led Cundy and O’Hara to disagree over the pair on TalkSPORT.

O’Hara says that Hojbjerg Xhaka. has surpassed

The pundits both picked an early Premier League team of the season, live on TalkSPORT.

And an Arsenal fan called to suggest that Xhaka should be called by their side.

Cundy agreed with the fan, but O’Hara thinks the ‘incredible’ Hojbjerg has been better this season.

O’Hara said, “He is… [Xhaka] will eventually cost us. What if I had to pick a team now, Xhaka? Out of all the midfielders I choose. I go into the game thinking ‘he’s letting me down’.

“He’s playing well, but would you say he’s one of the best midfielders in the league right now? [There’s] Kevin de Bruyne, Rodri, Hobjerg.”

Cundy interrupted: “Hojbjerg? Hold on.”

O’Hara then said Hojbjerg has been “incredible” for Tottenham this season.

“What, better than De Bruyne? Rodri? He hasn’t been better than Xhaka,” Cundy said.

But O’Hara said he believes Xhaka has not been at the same level as the Danish midfielder this season.

Cundy then mentioned Hojbjerg’s first-half display against Wolves this season, where he “didn’t touch it”.

But the former Spurs man backed Hojbjerg, saying he is the ninth highest-rated player on WhoScored this season.

Holding on to his guns, Cundy said he would sideline Brighton duo Leandro Trossard and Pascal Grob over the Spurs man.

Both Hojbjerg and Xhaka are in excellent form for the two North London teams this season.

The Danish international has registered two goals and as many assists in nine appearances for Antonio Conte’s side.

While the Arsenal man scored once and assisted three times in eight appearances for Mikel Arteta’s men.

The pair will face each other next Sunday as the Spurs travel to the Emirates for the first North London Derby of the season.
